I WOULD like to formally thank all the dedicated Derby City Council staff that have been working tirelessly over the last year, in some stressful times for many.

As the leader of the city council and the Derby City Labour Group, I and my fellow councillors will be working hard in representing the people of Derby in the next 12 months. In the first month of 2013, we will be setting the toughest budget the city council has ever had to set.

We will remain true to our Labour principles despite the challenges on the road ahead. We will be working together with council officers and our partners so that we achieve more by our collective endeavours than we achieve on our own.

As part of my and our new year resolutions, we will be working hard to continue the investment in the creation and protection of jobs as a key part of our work over the next year.

We will continue to work to improve educational attainment, as education has the ability to realise an individual's true potential and be a key to securing a future career.

We will also reviewing the way we deliver public services, so that we can develop a shared vision of the city and the services that the council should deliver both city wide and at the neighbourhood level.

As part of that "visioning" process we will be looking at the public building stock and how we can better use these resources with our partners in the city.

My fellow councillors and I look forward to working with everyone in our city to meet the challenges of 2013 and continue to move our great city forward.

Councillor Paul Bayliss

Leader

Derby City Council

“I would like to thank the council for replying to my e mail 4 weeks ago regarding dumped rubbish bags and beer cans and stating that the rubbish will be collected within 5 working days,Guess what its still there and more since.
Well done for being consistent in being ignorant.”

“more broken promises to follow - U turns to become the norm? doubt it they will just trample all us folk down.

lost jobs to follow, hike in council tax (despite government assistance readily available), parking charges to increase, brown bin tax, removal of disabled bays - definately a new labour group - one without any morals or values - shame shame shame on you all :-/”

If memory serves me DCC has made over 1000 staff redundant ( or let people retire in lieu of redundancy etc ) How does this stack up in light of this comment ??”

    “Marcus_oNE,
I unfailingly thank anyone who carries out a service for me whether it's their job or not. It's called politeness, and costs nothing.”

As part of a 'toileting' process we will be cascading loose stools over the population until our resources are utterly depleted and we have to go fill up again.”

“Councillor Bayliss is preparing the ground ready for an announcement of redundencies and cuts to services. This type of new year greeting is typical of private sector bosses thanking their employees just before telling them that their services are no longer required.”
