A SPEED camera that is under review in a busy Derby road should stay, according to a councillor.

Four cameras have been monitored to see whether they should be removed or replaced with other speed-reducing measures.

City council cabinet members Matthew Holmes and Chris Poulter are due to meet on Wednesday to decide what should happen to the cameras in Harvey Road, Osmaston Park Road, Nottingham Road and Derby Road.

Officers have recommended that all the cameras, apart from the one in Nottingham Road, should stay because there is evidence that they have cut speeds.

But the councillors said that information could not be taken in isolation and that the cameras could still be replaced with other signs or monitoring.

Boulton ward councillor Ranjit Banwait said he hoped the councillors would not go against the officers' recommendations.

"I am pleased that the findings show that the camera on Harvey Road has made the road safer and, therefore, the recommendation is for this to remain. I hope the cabinet members will accept and agree with the findings," he said.
