TIME was not of the essence when Charles Haycock crafted this skeleton clock – as it took months to make.

But the timepiece has made its own bit of history, as it is the first clock of its kind to be created by Ashbourne-based firm William Haycock Clockmakers since 1902.

The ornate clock is called a skeleton because all the workings inside it can be seen underneath a glass dome.

Firm owner Charles Haycock, 78 – who has been running the clock-making company for the past 40 years – built it himself for a customer who lives in the south of the country. He said: "It's great to see a finished product and to know that I created it."
