Cricket: Surrey pile up lead against Derbyshire
Derbyshire are 223 behind after they conceded a first innings lead of 28 on the third day of their LV County Championship match at Whitgift School.
They were bowled out for 334 after recovering from a poor start to the day. By the close, Mark Ramprakash was moving ominously towards another century on 76 not out in a score of 195-3.
Resuming on 169-2, Derbyshire lost Chris Rogers without adding to his overnight 80 when he was caught behind off Pedro Collins.
In the next over, Wavell Hinds drove loosely and was caught at point off Andre Nel, who then had Greg Smith well caught by wicketkeeper Jon Batty for 54 at 185-5.
Freddie Klokker lost his middle stump to Jade Dernbach at 209-6 but Dan Redfern and Graham Wagg dug in with a partnership of 105 for the seventh wicket.
Wagg made a season's best 71 off 66 balls with four fours and four sixes before he top-edged a pull and was caught at mid on.
Nel returned with the new ball to remove Tim Groenewald and Steffan Jones, then Dernbach bowled Nantie Hayward to leave Redfern 55 not out.
Batty was caught at slip by Rogers off Jones for 30 at 63-1 in the third over after tea but Derbyshire had to wait until the score was 152 for their next wicket, when Wagg struck twice in three balls to remove Michael Brown (56) and Stewart Walters (0).
Ramprakash remained, with Usman Afzal 21 not out at the close.
