Tim Groenewald took a career-best 6-50 in 24 overs as Derbyshire bowled Surrey out for 362 on the second day of their LV County Championship match at Whitgift School.

They took the last seven Surrey first innings wickets for 54 runs in 20 overs following a start delayed until after lunch because of rain and bad light.

Derbyshire then emerged through a tricky beginning to close the day on 169-2, trailing by 193, with Chris Rogers 80 not out and Greg Smith 48 not out.

Surrey, who were 275-1 late on the first day, lost their fourth wicket when Usman Afzaal was caught at deep backward square leg by Wavell Hinds off Graham Wagg.

Groenewald then had Stewart Walters lbw and Matthew Spriegel was bowled by Wagg to make it 342-6.

Groenewald then tore through the tail in a spell of 5-10 in 32 balls from the right-armer.

Surrey also looked dangerous with the ball and Wayne Madsen was lbw to Jade Dernbach for one at 8-1 in the sixth over.

Garry Park was second man out at 47 when he was caught at third slip off Pedro Collins for 15 but Rogers and Smith eased through to the close with an unbroken third-wicket stand of 122.
