Cup goal means another record for Derby County striker Mason Bennett
MASON Bennett has another record to his name.
The striker's goal against Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup third round on Saturday made him Derby County's youngest-ever scorer at 16 years and 174 days, beating the record set by Lee Holmes in 2003.
Bennett's goal also makes him the youngest-ever scorer in a proper round of the FA Cup.
FA historian David Barber confirmed this when he said: "The youngest FA Cup scorer is Sean Cato at 16 years 25 days, who netted for Barrow Town against Rothwell Town in a preliminary round tie in 2011.

"Before that, we used to say Jonjo Shelvey at 16 years 311 days was the youngest when he scored for Charlton Athletic against Norwich City in a third-round tie in 2009.
"So I guess he (Bennett) is the youngest in the competition proper that we know about."
Bennett is also the youngest-ever player to appear for Derby. He was 15 years and 99 days old when he lined up against Middlesbrough in October 2011.
The record had been held by Lee Holmes, who was 15 years and 268 days when he made his debut against Grimsby Town at Pride Park on Boxing Day 2002.
