PETER Colledge defied the pain of two cracked ribs to land Matlock CC's 25-mile time trial championship.

The course record holder was riding for the first time in a fortnight but powered away from the start and won by a minute and a half from Dominic Wibberley, finishing two minutes and 10 seconds under the hour.

The improving Patrick Gould set a personal best time of 59.36 to finish third. They were only three of 11 finishers to get under the hour.

Thirteen-year-old Patrick Smart set a personal best time for the third time in seven days.

The first of these was in the club's weekly 10-mile time trial but Smart really impressed his senior club-mates when he knocked two minutes off his PB in the club's long hilly time trial two days later, timing 35.04 on the course.

That is almost 10 minutes faster than he was riding on the same course last year.

In the 10-mile event, Richard Cordin took the win by two seconds from guest rider Stefan Rick after favourite Andy Woolf punctured within a mile and retired.

Chris Green took the long hilly trial by two seconds from Steve Heading to maintain his grip on the club's overall points standings for the season so far.
