The 34-year-old cyclist was going along Manor Road, in Derby, when he was hit by a vehicle travelling towards Uttoxeter New Road. The motorist drove away from the scene without stopping, shortly after 1am.

Police said the car which hit the cyclist would have been "extensively" damaged in the incident and officers are appealing for witnesses, or anyone who saw a damaged car close to the road, to come forward.
