ABOUT 7,000 units of blood are needed every day to help save the lives of people across England and North Wales, according to NHS Blood and Transplant.

To inspire you to give blood, we are featuring the stories of people whose lives were saved by transfusions.

There are plenty of sessions at which readers can donate, once they have booked an appointment. They include:

Most people can give blood. First-time donors should be in good health, aged 17 to 65 and weigh at least 50kg, or 7st 12lb. About 470ml of blood is taken, which the body replenishes quickly.
