Former DRI worker becomes a bishop

A FORMER Derbyshire Royal Infirmary worker has become the new Bishop of Doncaster.

Peter Burrows was ordained by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, at a service at York Minster.

Mr Burrows, born in Derby and formerly the Archdeacon of Leeds, took over the role from the Rt Rev Cyril Ashton.

After working at the DRI, Mr Burrows trained for the priesthood and was ordained in 1983.

A civic service to welcome the bishop will be held in Doncaster Minster on Saturday at 11am.
