'Dangerous' level crossing stops 999 car in its tracks
RESIDENTS claim traffic delays caused by a level crossing pose a "danger to people's lives".
People living close to the crossing on Meadow Lane in Long Eaton say emergency vehicles have been caught in the hold-ups.

A paramedic vehicle is forced to wait at a closed level crossing on Meadow Lane, Long Eaton.
One incident, involving a paramedic vehicle on March 10, was caught on camera.
Jake Rabjohns, 22, of Meadow Lane, said: "I couldn't believe it when the paramedics got stuck with the rest of us for nearly 15 minutes while we waited."

Simon Unsworth, 45, also of Meadow Lane, said: "My fear is that one day we'll call for help and delays at the crossings will mean the difference between life and death. These crossings have become a real and significant danger to people's lives."
A spokeswoman for Network Rail said: "Level crossing safety is one of our top priorities and we will investigate this incident.
"We have a 24/7 hotline on 08457 11 41 41 and we urge any member of the public to ring if they have any concerns."

“If it was much of an emergency one of the ambulance crew could have walked across the pedestrian crossing and made his way on foot if it was a house that he was trying to get to.
What do people expect! the trains to be stopped to allow the emergency services to get across.”
