Wassall: Win can be springboard for youngsters
ACADEMY manager Darren Wassall is hoping Derby County's FA Youth Cup victory over Gateshead can kick-start his side's season.
The Rams under-18s won 4-0 at Pride Park Stadium last night to book their place in the fourth round of the competition.

Striker Kwame Thomas scored twice in the first half before being joined on the scoresheet by defender Josh Lelan and midfielder Andy Dales. It was the U18s' first competitive win of the campaign and Wassall wants his young guns to use the result as a turning point.
"We were delighted with the performance," he said. "We played some great stuff at times.

"Gateshead came here in good form and high on confidence, while we've not had the best of times, results-wise, so it was important we got off to a good start.
"We wanted the players to emulate the first team's performances at home this season – not just the way they play but their attitude, desire and energy. I thought we did that and we got our rewards.
"They've set a standard now in terms of the performance and the way they went about the game and their challenge is to go and do that in the second half of the season.
"There's a long way to go and we want this to act as a springboard. They've done the first part and can be very pleased with themselves – but now they've got to push on from here."
