A DATE has been set for the closure of the Co-op's Derby department store.

In January, Midlands Co-operative Society announced it was closing nine department stores, including in Exchange Street in Derby, in Ilkeston and Chesterfield.

A total of 241 jobs will go in Derbyshire, including 64 at the Derby store, which has been trading for 70 years.

The Derby store is now scheduled to shut on Saturday, April 27.

Midlands Co-op said it was still in consultation with staff who will be affected by the closure and hoped some of them could be found jobs elsewhere in the business.

The Chesterfield and Ilkeston department stores are both scheduled to close on Friday, July 26.
