RAW nature will soon be on display at a Derbyshire beauty spot as red and fallow deer stags fight to win their mates.

Rutting scenes usually unfold during October and November at the National Trust's Calke Abbey when the red and fallow deer stags battle to win their mates with bellowing calls and antler-clashing skirmishes.

Red and fallow deer have been part of the landscape at Calke Abbey since the mid-17th century and the ancient woodland and parkland is home to over 100 deer.

Philip Bittner, visitor experience manager for Calke Abbey said: "It might seem like a ferocious fight, but this is an annual activity that is as old as the hills, so please don't be alarmed."

“Leaves turning can be spectacular - tourists flock to New England for the spectacle and there are websites monitoring best areas for particular days, so Sadie73 - it takes all sorts ..”

“This is one of the highlights of the Naturalist's year and it brings a lot of tourism into the area. I would like to take the opportunity to get take some of those fabulous photos of the action. @dianae, thanks for the video link - poor chap, I wonder what he was doing to get this sort of attention.

@Sadie73, comparing leaves falling from trees to this action filled natural event!? Never mind there's always Big brother and the X Factor on the telly to keep you full of excitement.”

“In other news, leave may start to turn yellow and fall from trees. A spokesman said: "This is a perfectly normal occurrence, please do not be alarmed."”

Video of man chased up tree by stag in London park - apparently the man just came a bit close and other people did not dare to try and help me except by ringing 999”
