Council leader Paul Bayliss said: "I welcome this news and I am delighted that we have been recognised nationally for our determination to deliver excellence despite continued cuts to our funding.

"It is becoming increasingly difficult to deliver what we and residents want as there is less and less money available due to the government’s cuts but my Cabinet and I are working hard to improve and protect services where we can.”

Adam Wilkinson, Chief Executive added: “The LGC Awards recognise and celebrate the best achievements across local government and I am delighted that we have been recognised in this way. It is particularly pleasing to have been short listed in the Council of the Year category that recognises the significant improvements we are making across all parts of the Council in very difficult and challenging economic times.”

The Awards will be presented at a ceremony in London in March 2013.

“A quick browse through the Local Government Chronicle suggests that it is hardly an impartial rag and would be happy to accept any nominations for Labour Councils. If you also set the bar low enough then anyone can be in the running for the top spot.

If you nominated Paul Bayliss for Environment Contributor of the Year in Sinfin, he would be on the shortlist I'm sure.

I didn't see any category for best keep road or public transport infrastructures, customer satisfaction rates or refuse collection, all of which feature regularly in this newspaper, not very often for success related reasons.”

    “Labour Damage Limitations.

Already hearing stories that the current Labour Crop are not too keen on Paul Bayliss. Change of Leadership.

And also this paper may have an agenda against Labour *Don't see it myself

What i do see is the public clicking on.

Pat yourselves on the back as much as you want. The Public will decide our future. Not yours.”

“if they can continue to deliver such 'excellent' services as this article and nomination would suggest, even after cutting a huge number of jobs, it shows just how over staffed they were in the first place.....”
