DERBY CITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE SUNDAY 14th MARCH 2010

UNDER 12 CHALLENGE TROPHY FINAL

LITTLEOVER VILLA  (3)   3      PRIDE PARK JUNIORS  (0)   0

Villa claimed an excellent cup victory at Moorways as they took full advantage of a strong wind blowing straight down the pitch.

The game stated with Pride Parks Jake Danby causing the Littleover defence numerous problems down the right wing but his pace and precision crosses came to nothing as the Juniors strikers failed to convert their chances.

Littleover went ahead when the ball struck a Pride park defender and although Joe Cannon in the Pride Park goal made a desperate grab for the ball the eagle eyed assistant referee signalled that the ball had crossed the line.

Littleover went two up when Ross Hudson spun and shot and bought out a great bloke from Cannon but as the ball broke again to Hudson he calmly slotted it home.

Villa were making good use of the strong wind and limited Pride Park to few chances but when the Juniors did get a strike on goal they found the save hands of Oliver Torrance unbeatable.

Littleover added a third when the ball broke to David Mosley who smashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net from 12 yards.

Pride Park, unbeaten in the league so far were stunned into action and pinned Littleover in their own half of the pitch for the last five minutes of the half but failed to get on the score sheet.

Pride Park had the advantage of the wind in the second half but for all their pressure chances were few and far between as the Littleover defence remained strong and fearless in the challenge and when the defence was beaten there was keeper Oliver Torrance who had no intensions of giving up another clean sheet.

Darragh Ashley replaced Joe Cannon in the Pride Park goal after Cannon received a knock on the head as he bravely thwarted a Villa attack diving at the feet of an attacker but Ashley maintained the high goalkeeping standards on display getting the better of two one on one chances that Littleover failed to convert on rare second half breakaways.

Referee Mr. Orchard bought the game to an end with a loud blast of the whistle to the delight of the Littleover followers but everyone in the good sized crowd rose to applaud two excellent sides who had delivered an outstanding hours entertainment.
