JAKE Buxton is set to return to Derby County's squad for Saturday's Championship clash at Watford.

Injuries have kept the central defender out of first-team action for more than three months but he played 80 minutes for the Reserves against West Bromwich Albion at Alfreton yesterday.

Derby have injury problems in defence ahead of the trip to Vicarage Road.

Shaun Barker (thigh) is already out and Dean Leacock (hamstrings) and Miles Addison (foot) look certain to join him on the sidelines, meaning Buxton's return could be timely.

Full-backs Jay McEveley and Paul Connolly finished Tuesday's goalless draw at Preston as the Rams' centre-back pairing.

"Dean Leacock is very doubtful for Watford, Miles Addison also – I think we are going to be very short in the centre-half department," said manager Nigel Clough.

"If he suffers no reaction, Jake Buxton will be in the squad for Watford and probably on the bench to cover us."

Buxton started the first five league games of the season alongside Addison at the back.

He last featured for the first team in the defeat by Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on August 29.

“A simple message for John, miles for captain - you say you haven't heard 'skinned' for a while. We're you at the city ground earlier this season when Nathan Tyson did just that to you whole back four before he wound you up with the Forest flag. We bring in Morgan, Earnshaw, Camp and Tyson and you bring in non league trier Jake Buxton. Says it all really. 30 January is approaching. Tick tock, tick tock
Thank you for your time and attention oh jealous ones.”

“The two problems Buxton has at Championship level is he is slower than my Gran and he can't pass and I don't mean his passing is poor I mean he literally can't pass. He gets an A for effort though.”

“"Buxton was skinned by Lateef Elford Alliyu, who squared for World Cup-bound New Zealand international Chris Wood but his strike was well blocked by Alex Forde." - I just thought that the word "skinned" stuck out for me in this paragraph! Not heard that sort of terminology since I was playing football at schoolboy level, which is the sort of level that Buxton is at now. Completely useless!”

“Come on John, the guy who'd apparently head a brick..... Which proves he's either stupid or football probably isn't the best place for him. Either way, don't give him a building job - he'd get no work done and he'd be a health and safety nightmare!!!”

“Jake Buxton should NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER play for Derby County football Club EVER again. As a person, I like him, as a footballer at this level he is completely and utterlely useless. Hey, put me on the pitch and I will play my heart out and try hard but it wouldnt be good enough would it? The same applies to Buxton.. Completely epitomises everything that it wrong with Calamity Clough's reign”
