Paul Coutts hit the woodwork for the Rams before defender Michael Duff headed a second for the home side in the 74th minute.

Burnley created a decent opening in the fourth minute, when Danny Ings threaded a pass in to Martin Paterson.

Paterson controlled well, only to see his low shot saved by the body of Adam Legzdins and bounce up and over the bar.

Dean Marney prodded wide after Kieran Trippier's speculative effort had deflected into his path but the flag was up for offside anyway.

In driving rain, the Rams were unable to seriously trouble Burnley in the opening period.

Coutts' long-range strike was deflected over in a rare foray forward for the visitors.

The hosts opened the scoring in fortuitous style in the 39th minute.

Trippier's cross from the right was deflected into the path of Austin, whose first-time shot was heading well wide until John Brayford inadvertently diverted the ball into the net.

O'Brien headed over from Michael Jacobs' free kick but that was a close as Derby got to levelling before the break.

Three minutes into the second half, Derby were caught upfield following a set piece and Austin's hook over the top released Ross Wallace but he could not keep his shot on target.

It needed a great tackle from O'Brien to deny Ings and, seconds later, former Derby keeper Lee Grant was out quickly to clear his lines after Jeff Hendrick had released Jacobs, who had been moved into a central position.

The Rams so nearly equalised just before the hour but Jacobs' low shot from 20 yards was parried by Grant before Coutts' slammed the rebound against a post from an angle.

Next, Bryson tested Grant with an effort that swerved late.

Nathan Tyson and Theo Robinson were brought on as Derby went on the attack - but they conceded a second in the 74th minute.

Duff sent a downward header goalwards from Wallace's left-wing corner and Robinson's attempted clearance took it over the line.

Burnley might have added a third in the closing stages, while Robinson turned Coutts' cross just wide in added time.

“Its what you do with your players, signing them or bringing them through the ranks is one thing, its what you do with them, how you get them to play at home and away to get the most points possible, to me, we haven't a clue what our best 11 is for away games, its a complete lottery.

Fact for you - since Clough has been in charge we have the worst record in cup competitions of any the teams in the top 2 divisions.”

“Quote: 'darren wassall is doing a great job but its not negativity that he,s not mentioned a lot its becausewe all know except you that all good young players he makeswill be sold AND THATS NOT NEGATIVE THATS FACT'

How can it be a fact when we haven't sold one yet? In reality we haven't even had an offer for one! Something is a 'fact' if its based on previous experience, some smidgen of evidence but, like many other posters, you think that a 'fact' is something you read in the Daily Mirror.

GSE have got a false reputation for selling good players based on the exploits of Jeremy Keith and his mates so when you are so adamant that something is a 'fact' please make sure that it is one, is that too much to ask?”

“Since when has a team's gates determined how good they are? Why should playing a team who get 10,000 be a doddle? Didn't Wimbledon spend some years in the top flight, before the got promoted weren't Blackpool getting gates of about 9,500? Even Notts County got into the top flight a few years ago.”

    “MadridRam
Spot-on with regard to waiting until the season is over before judging the management. Those who come on here to criticise Clough, Metgod etc always seem to forget to mention the great job being done by Darren Wassall. Why I wonder? Could it be because it's a positive and that doesn't support their negative views?
One other point - take no notice of the number of red arrows, there's enough loonies on here who will automatically tick the red box for anything that in any way is positive. They mean nowt!”

“I have no idea why you have got seven red arrows Philanthropic because everything you say is commons sense. When people say 'football is a game of investment' what they really mean is that its a game of debt, reckless gambles and, sometimes, disaster. Occasionally owners throw huge amounts of borrowed money at a club and it comes off, very often it doesn't and eventually the bills have to be paid. I won't mention the trials and tribulations that the fans of once great clubs are facing at the moment because I will be accused of polarising the argument. One thing that fans have to realise is that owners don't buy championship football clubs because they love them, they don't buy them out of a sense of loyalty, they buy them in the hope that one day they will make money. They don't make money by risking their own assets, they risk the future of the club knowing that they can walk away when it all goes t**s up.

OptCapita bought Comet for £2 in 2011but when the company went bust they actually walked away with a tidy sum, they didn't lose a penny of their own money. No one knows how Forest are being financed, no one knows what surprises lay ahead. I prefer the way we are doing it.”

“Am I missing something? Plan was to continue improving this year: get top ten, maybe push for top 6. We're currently 4 points away from the playoffs and people want Clough out. We're currently in the most financially stable position we've been in for years and people want the board out.

I hear your cries of "Clough has had 4 years, enough is enough" but this is the first full year he has had a team that he assembled. At least give the support to the team and let him complete a season with his squad and his and GSE's objectives. They stated them at the start of the season and are pretty much on course to get there and whilst I'm not a blind faith Clough or GSE fan, I recognise what they are trying to achieve and think we're getting there.

If we've not improved at the end of the season, that's the time to ask questions.”

“I think Nigel's had enough time to make a real impact and hasn't taken it..he's only ever going to keep the team 'ticking over'..not pushing for promotion as we all want..i think it's time o part company and realize that we'r never going to hit the big time with this manager in charge, better trying someone else than banging our heads against a wall season after season!!”
