Derby County end barren run with victory over Leicester City
DERBY County ended their eight-game winless run with a 2-1 victory over East Midlands rivals Leicester City at Pride Park Stadium.
First-half goals from skipper Richard Keogh and on-loan striker Chris Martin put the Rams in the driving seat on Saturday.
Substitute Jeff Schlupp pulled one back for the promotion-chasing Foxes after the break but the home side held on for a much-needed three points.
Rams boss Nigel Clough made four changes to his following last weekend's 3-1 defeat at Birmingham.

Goalkeeper Frank Fielding was handed his first outing since early October in place of Adam Legzdins, while top scorer Jamie Ward, reigning player of the year Craig Bryson and Kieron Freeman all returned from injury.
Gareth Roberts was ruled out after picking up a knock in training, so Craig Forsyth moved to left-back, with Ben Davies and Valentin Gjokaj dropping to the bench.
Derby opened the scoring in the 14th minute.
Ward delivered a teasing free kick from the left and Keogh rose well to head past Kasper Schmeichel from six yards.
The lead was doubled just before the break.
This time, it was Forsyth who provided a cross from the left, which was headed in by the unmarked Martin.
Leicester halved the deficit in the 62nd minute.
Ben Marshall's cross from the right was held up by David Nugent and he laid the ball back for Schlupp to smash home first-time from 12 yards, giving Fielding no chance.
Nugent had a chance to level moments later but fired straight at the Derby keeper.
The Foxes piled on the pressure towards the end but the Rams, led by Keogh and Jake Buxton, stood firm.

“Would like to see a fit Jamie Ward in one of the main striker roles and am not ****ging off Sammon but if it was a choice between him and Martin for a place in our starting eleven then IMO it would have to be Martin every time because he is simply a better all round player and a class above.”

“I must say that Sammon looked embarassingly clumsy even by his standards. As I've said before given his hair style and lack of dexterity and football knowledge, he is a shoe in for a Prem league refs job.”

“Without Sammon we would not have got the F.Kick that
resulted in Wards superbly flighted ball for Keogh to nod
home the first goal...
Sammon causes massive unrest in any defence and yes he does
cock it up sometimes, but is a huge improvement on sayTyson/Theo
and imo will only get better...give him a break.
We played our worst football but still won, says alot about our manager
and players.
Those that are knocking the crowd of 23000 odd need a reality check,it was
on the horrible ...YOU VILLPLAY DA GAME WEND WE ARE SAYING YOU WILL
LAY SKY .AND,friday night...MEH.
And as for the Red Bogs ,they got truly hammered but won,it will all unravel
with the poisoned one in charge....FACT.”

“Great result, awful game! Three points with winnable games left securing a safe position in the Championship well done all. Although I watched the game on TV it does surprise me that FCFC are in the position they are in the league.Forgetting how much money has been invested in the players they were second best to the Rams in all departments. Hope this suggests that we are in a false position mid/lower table and we beat play play off contenders with consumate ease.
Once again excellent result. Up the Rams!”

“Still got moaners on her even though we won 3 recognised defenders (one being academy) and Barker Brayford Roberts O'Brien (our best defence) and Hughes were all sat in the Pedgree Suit watching..... For moaning to take place after that win shows utter disrespect and rubbish fans who dare to....Get a life...Wll done super Rams and Nigel”

“Is that actually the first game we've won ugly this season? Awful match, deprived of quality and excitment. Very happy for the result and the manor of the result. Also massive 3 points bearing in mind everyone below us won.
Thought the crowd was spot on after Martin scored.." sign him up!". At last a front man who can play with his back to goal, can hold the ball and then actually pass it to one of our own, amazing! Couple that with a shot well saved, some good through balls and taking his chance when they were few and for not much £ we may have a decent target man.
Also thought Forsyth did well at LB. Strange that the number of crosses into our box weren't many meaning Keown only had to worry about it on the deck (where's he's at his best). He was good at holding his position and thus making us a better defensive unit.
Sorry for highlighting Sammon but he was awful. Yes he runs but what is the point of fighting so hard for the ball if you just give it away when you've won it?? Classic example 2nd half running the clock down, ball into the corner, the bench shouts "hold it", he does for 5 seconds and then passes it to the opposition!!
We are lacking real pace upfront again and on the wings (Jacobs?). When they where pressing us back we didnt really have any threat on the counter.
Very happy and relieved to get those 3 points but we need the same again if the bottom teams keep winning.”
