THEO Robinson has returned to training and Derby County hope to have the striker back in the squad for Saturday’s home game against Huddersfield Town.

A bout of tonsillitis ruled the Rams’ top scorer out of the FA Cup defeat by Blackburn Rovers at the weekend.

“He felt unwell on Friday and the doctor saw him and diagnosed tonsillitis straight away.

“It takes 48 hours for the antibiotics to kick in and he did a bit of training yesterday.

“We’ll make sure he feels alright and hopefully he will be back in the squad at the weekend.”

Robinson, who has nine goals this season, has not started for the first team since the draw at Charlton Athletic on December 29.

“Surprised that he was given antibiotics as these are generally not given now for tonsillitis except in extreme cases.

My understanding is, that by the time someone has been diagnosed with inflamation there is no real advantage in taking antibiotics as the 2 days it takes for them to start to work is roughly the same time as it normally takes for the main symtons to calm down on their own.

My GP recently advised me that many who have taken antibiotics in the past think they have worked, but when related to tonsillitis, the timescale to recovery without taking them is roughly the same.

Also, If Theo managed without prescription drugs, he would also recover quicker as his level of fitness would not have been affected by a 5 or7 day course of antibiotics.

Just seems a bit strange to me.”
