NIGEL Clough says there is still plenty of work to do before Derby County can feel safe in the Championship.

The Rams manager believes his team need possibly another three wins from the final nine games to steer clear of trouble at the wrong end of the table.

He voiced his concern after Saturday's 3-1 defeat by Birmingham City at St Andrew's.

Derby are without a victory in eight matches and have won only once in their last 11 League games.

They have slipped to 15th and the gap between themselves and the relegation places is down to six points.

They sit second bottom of the current form table but Clough is confident Derby can find the necessary points.

"There is certainly work to be done," he said.

"We have been looking over our shoulder for a while, don't worry about that.

"We have not been looking up too often.

"We've always had one eye on it because in the Championship when you get a few injuries and get on a bad run, it is very difficult.

"Every team is vulnerable until you get to that 50-odd points mark. We have known that for a few weeks and that is why we have been absolutely desperate to reach that mark.

"We have nine games to achieve it. We need another three wins or something like that but we think we will get them."

The Championship is congested. Five points separate 10 clubs from Burnley in 11th to Ipswich Town in 20th.

Derby led Birmingham until the 68th minute thanks to Ben Davies' third goal of the season before substitutes Wes Thomas (2) and Nathan Redmond scored as Birmingham roared back.

The win took Birmingham above Derby in the table.

"We've had tricky runs before and come through them, so we'll do the same now," said Clough, whose team face Leicester City at Pride Park in their next game.

“Some senseless forest fans, please get a grip.
Since when has Billy been a king or a success?
He hasn't won 4 out of 4 matches v Derby. I seem to remember him threatening to sue Nigel after we were the first team to ruin your away record and derail your promotion push one year? I also remember victories at the CG when we sung 'Billy what's the score' and it wasn't to sing about our loss.
I definitely remember Blackpool and Swansea. I'll let him off for Yeovil ;-)
I also recall Billy throwing toys out of the notts pram when he didn't get his own way.
I remember him doing this at every club in his career.
I remember forest fans going mad in anger last time he was in charge and the wheels fell off.
I remember not 1 club wanting him until he invented the 'unfinished business' myth when he was unemployed and you were looking for 4th / 5th manager in a year.
As for this obsession with our crowds, I'm amazed. You are a perennially poorly supported club, even when you were winning things. A city and conurbation your size should be getting massive crowds but where are they all? Hiding inside the Major Oak? I'll tell you where shall I cos I come from your neck of the woods. Mainly sitting at home or trailing around the Broadmarsh with only a passing interest when things are going ok but definitely not thinking about a day out at the CG. You kids who take the pi55 are merely that and are actually an embarrassment to good forest fans. I know more Derby fans in notts than forest fans.
I've already applauded Andy the forest fan today for his balanced opinion and realistic view of our clubs so please try to either follow suit or not bother eh?”

“It is simple, there are a lot of good and better experienced managers available on the market and our current season is already over - assuming we do avoid (another) relegation battle. This division is littered with clubs smaller than Derby but with good managers have shown progress, we have not. Other clubs would have sacked Clough by now.

Time to start the campaign at PP to get Clough out and look for a fresh start, we have given him every chance, we have tried the consistancy approach but we are no better than when he came in. Move on and look at Atkins, Di Canio et al.”

“strettonrams Adkins is looking for a big club that has money to spend the likes of Notts County or Burton so your lot have no chance especially with your owners who have very deep pockets, as you come from Stretton I would be watching the Brewers it only a short walk from your house and atleast you would see a win most weeks instead of 1 in 13 what a joke of a club, no money gates down by 5,000 on last season and yet another fight against relegation for the 5th season, at least we have something to play for your season finishes at Christmas.

Plodders they everyday story of Direby Clounty.”

“There seem to be red supporters offering us advice, red arrows for some posters, red faces from DCFCs management structure and red figures at the bottom of the GSEs balance sheets. Perhaps we should wave the(black) & white flag and start over all again with a fresh outlook from fresh ideas, economic growth from new owners. This is not negativity and I will always support the Rams but the indignity, disappointment and false hope for a new dawn is very evident just in the posts from dissatisfied customers. Please give the supporters and long time fans of our club some hope for the future. Up the Rams!”

“Our position now reminds me of the early 1980's when we had to endure season after season of struggle. A whole procession of hapless managers ( Addison, Newman and even Taylor) attempted to delay the inevitable drop into the third tier. It wasn't until we managed to combine the appointment of a decent manager, Arthur Cox, with a little investment in the team that progress could be made. We all know that huge sums of money are not going to be spent, and if people are honest we know NC is not the man to take us further. So let us start by bringing in a manager who knows what he is doing (Adkins fits the bill), then a small investment from our tight- fisted friends from across the pond in a couple of defenders whom can actually defend. Then watch us fly!”

“Just shows the ambition of the manager not looking to far up, especially when we was at one point 6pts from the play-offs.... Sounds like with NC the ambition is to avoid relegation every season by aiming for 50points at least to avoid relegation... No wonder the past 4 years has looked the same... what a joke, I don't see us getting out Saturday evening. And a few fixtures are looking tough in April...

Same boring excuses of injuries, sorry but we are not the only club in the league to suffer with injuries, your obviously lack the coaching knowledge on how to deal with it.. hence you not having any coaching badges..

And the Yanks wonder why the attendances are falling.... And its nothing to do with the economy.... Its the point fans are finally seeing that the club lacks ambition through the coaching staff and perhaps the owners of the club.

Do the club a favor and resign... You have tried your best but you clearly don't have a clue on how to sustain a promotion challenge.”

“The club needs new ideas, the players needs new ideas, a different voice. We are Derby County, a footballing city, a proper footballing city, we have no define right to be in the premiership but we do have a right that we should be proud of, the odd comeback, a cup run!!!!

From his latest comments and the awful run we are on, he can't say anything we have not heard many times, the hard luck story in most games is now laughable. Too many decisions that if you are winning games nobody will question you, but he likes of Friday night games with little reward, players out of positions, players falling out of favour, selling Shackell, picking his best players and not the best team, all these come back to haunt you when we can't win a game.

He was talking about being a top six team earlier in the year with a forward, he then signs Sammon who he tracked for 2 years, for me he hasn't really paid off along with his other striker purchases, none of them have worked out. If it was down to character we would be top of the league, it means nothing when we keep losing.

Adkins, MCdermmott both available, it won't take much money as I believe the team we have is good enough to be there or there abouts, the team are under achieving, simple as..........

Time for change, and change it now...........”

“Is "The Awkward One" still in charge?
Can someone tell the twerps at GSE that they own DCFC and a decision needs to be made before it's too late. Or do the cowards need 40 odd signatures from 40 countries to do anything?
FYOF - Four years of failure...how many more?
