THE Thursday Derby Darts League, established in 2011, is taking entries for their second summer season.

Open to men and women of all standards from the city and the surrounding areas, the league also organises a knockout cup, singles and pairs competitions through the season.

League matches are played three pairs 701 and six singles 501, both over best of three. Because players are able to compete in pairs and singles, only six are needed to make up a team.

It also offers the chance to win cash, with a pay-out of £1 per league point and 95% of what the league takes in is paid out in prize money.

To register a new team, a deposit of £20 has to be placed at the league's AGM on February 27 at 8pm at the Travellers Rest on Ashbourne Road, Derby.

The league held its first Christmas KO held at Rileys on Babington Lane, attracting an entry of 61.

The first prize of £250 went to Loughborough's Steve Hopkins, who beat Richard Palmer 5-3 in the final.

Rileys remain unbeaten at the top in the current league season, despite a strong challenge from the Bridge, Ashbourne.

There is also a close fight for third and fourth, with one point separating local rivals 102 Club and Woodlark.

Two players share the honour at present for the shortest leg in a match, Daniel Thomas (Rileys) and Tim Broadhurst (102 Club) having achieved 14-darters. Jenny Whatmough (102 Club) leads the ladies with a 20-dart leg.

Sean Lambert (Courtyard) holds the highest finish so far with a 151 checkout, while Carlie Handford (Woodlark) had a 95 checkout to top the women's list.

Paul Redfern (Rileys) leads the 180 table with eight, followed by Kim Robinson (Bridge), Frank Davis and Daniel Thomas, both of Rileys, with four.
