The company announced an 8% rise sales, to £12.2 billion and its order book grew 4% to £60.1 billion, thanks to strong demand for its Derby-built Trent engines.

The firm’s success has been driven by civil aerospace, which is its largest division based in Sinfin.

“Why is it when someone or a company do well there are people ready to pull the rug from underneath them. I worked for Rolls- Royce for 43 great years until I retired in 2009. It's great to see them beating the American's building aero engines with the super Trent family.”

“Great news, they'll be able to afford bigger 'emoluments', 'considerations', 'expenses', ''honoraria' and all the other forms of 'hospitality' and corporate 'wheel-oiling' needed to avoid the suspicion of b*ngs or b*ckhanders.
Even bigger than their competitors, with any luck.”
