Soldier injured in attack which killed friend
A DERBY soldier has been injured in Afghanistan in an attack which claimed the life of his friend.
Private Danny Eaglesfield has been serving in the country as a member of 2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment since May.
On Saturday, the 18-year-old was taking part in an operation to clear a Taliban stronghold in Helmand Province when the vehicle he was travelling in was hit by a rocket propelled grenade.
Danny received shrapnel wounds to his left leg. His closest friend Private Robbie Laws, of Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, was killed in the attack.

“Credit to Danny for 'having the bottle' to join the Army knowing that in the present climate he would be on front line action within months.
On the other side of the coin then is it the right place for an 18 year old lad to be with obvious minimal experience by his age and under equipped by the government to fight for a cause that has nothing to do with us.
I hope that those who encouraged him to get involved in the no win situation feel lucky that Danny has only been injured.”
