Derbyshire CCC back on top in Barbados after Jon Clare spell
AN outstanding post-lunch spell from Jon Clare put Derbyshire on top at tea in their match against Northants at North Stars.
It sent Northants from 108-2 at lunch to 217-7 after 61 overs in response to Derbyshire's 313-9.
Clare's first spell in the morning was wicketless and cost him 25 but he found extra bounce and swing in the sun in the afternoon in a six-wicket spell that brought him 3-13.
The first to go after lunch was James Middlebrook as he played on to Clare for 12 at 140-4 but Matt Spriegel had survived the first 48 overs before he was lbw to Clare at 155-5. It was a good first innings for the county from the former Surrey all-rounder and his 66 came off 129 balls with nine fours.
