DERBYSHIRE struggled to find any momentum after being put in to bat first in their opening match of the Barbados t20 tournament.

They made only 128-9 against a solid Warwickshire attack at the 3Ws Oval, with no batsman really coming to grips with the short game.

There was trouble from the start for Derbyshire when Wes Durston pushed at the second ball of the match, from Keith Barker, and was caught behind without a run on the scoreboard.

Missing Wayne Madsen, Dan Redfern, Jon Clare, David Wainwright and Tom Knight through various niggles, there were not many options for the Falcons and they were soon in deeper trouble.

Chesney Hughes top-edged a pull at Chris Wright and lobbed a simple catch to midwicket for nine at 22-2 but Billy Godleman and Ross Whiteley promised better until both went in successive overs.

Godleman was run out coming back for a second after sweeping spinner Paul Best to long leg for 19 and then Whiteley misjudged the flight from Ateeq Javid and lost his off stump for 23, including two sixes, to make it 57-4 in the 10th.

Richard Johnson briefly looked bright for his seven before he was lbw to Best, Tom Poynton was stumped down the leg side off Laurie Evans for two and Paul Borrington was lbw to Oliver Hannon-Dalby for 24 at 97-7 in the 17th.

Though he hardly plays t20 for Derbyshire under normal circumstances, Borrington finished the top scorer.

In the attempt for a final push in the last over, Peter Burgoyne was caught at deep midwicket for 14 and Tim Groenewald at long off for 11.

Footitt faced only one ball, the last, but hit it for six over long on.
