Derbyshire bowlers get their reward
Derbyshire's bowlers were rewarded for their patience after
tea on the second day of their LV County Championship match
against Leicestershire.
The away side reached 117-6 at the close against a tight attack
after Derbyshire had been bowled out for 208.
After nine overs were lost at the beginning through rain,
conditions were difficult for batting from the start but Wavell
Hinds and Rikki Clarke played with care to see off the first
nine overs.
But then, with the score 136-3, Hinds was called through for a
quick single and run out for 44 by a smart piece of fielding
from du Toit with a direct hit running in from point.
In the next over, Clarke was bowled by a full-length swinging
delivery from Nadeem Malik for nine and the score was
138-5.
Greg Smith was caught at cover off a loose shot in the second
over after lunch and Jamie Pipe fell into the trap set by
Garnet Kruger by pulling him to deep midwicket for 18 at
172-7.
The eighth wicket fell on the same score in the next over, Jon
Clare lbw for 10 to Tom Smith, who then took an excellent
diving catch at midwicket to remove Graham Wagg for 15 before
Charl Langeveldt was last out for one.
Leicestershire lost their first wicket in the seventh over as
Tom New edged Wagg to second slip Clarke at 12-1.
But Derbyshire had to wait to follow up that wicket, though
Clare had both Boyce and du Toit dropped at slip in the same
over.
But Clare finally claimed du Toit's wicket to a catch at second
slip before Langeveldt followed up with a burst of 3-10 in 32
balls to remove HD Ackerman, Matt Boyce and Allenby to make it
101-5.
Clare added the scalp of Boeta Dippenaar but Paul Nixon and
Smith dug in to prevent further loss in the remaining 10
overs.
