Derbyshire were 50 runs from victory at tea on the

final day of their LV County Championship match against

Middlesex.

Charl Langeveldt (5-40) and Wavell Hinds (3-22) sent Middlesex

sliding to 166 all out in their second innings, setting

Derbyshire only 126 to win the match, and at the final break

they were 76-2.

Derbyshire had the early breakthrough they needed when Eion

Morgan drove loosely at Langeveldt and was caught by Tom New

for 14 at 63-3.

But Dawid Malan and Dan Housego safely saw out the next 14

overs until, in his first over, Hinds had Malan caught behind

for 47 at 118-4.

In Hinds' next, Ben Scott was taken by New for a duck off a

rising ball and, six overs later, Berg gave the wicketkeeper a

fourth catch as he cut loosely at Hinds for five to make it

135-6.

Langelveldt returned to the attack to york Housego for 36 and,

in the final over before lunch, Murali Kartik aimed an

expansive drive at Langeveldt and was superbly caught by the

diving Graham Wagg at cover.

Middlesex did not last long after that, with Langeveldt bowling

Alan Richardson for 13 and Tim Murtagh for nine.

Derbyshire lost Paul Borrington at 21-1, caught by Morgan at

second slip off Murtagh for seven, and Chris Rogers was bowled

by Kartik for 20 but Dan Birch (31 not out) and Hinds (15 not

out) took them through to tea.
