Derbyshire were left two wickets from victory at the

end of the last day of their LV County Championship

against Leicestershire.

Set 220 to win off 58 overs, Leicestershire closed at 202-8,

with James Allenby their hero on 72 not out.

Allenby and Tom Smith put on 93 in 27 overs for the seventh

wicket and it seemed Leicestershire might win the game from

that point but when Smith was caught and bowled by Charl

Langeveldt for 42 at 193-7, their hoped faded.

Three wickets for Graham Wagg earlier turned the game the way

of the home side as he removed Tom New, Jacques du Toit and

Boeta Dippenaar in an eight-over spell of 3-24 to make it

43-4.

HD Ackerman was well caught at gully by Rikki Clarke off Wavell

Hinds for 24 and when Wagg claimed a fourth wicket as Nixon was

caught at slip, Derbyshire were in control at 100-6.

Even though Claude Henderson was eighth out in the penultimate

over, time ran out for Derbyshire.

Derbyshire lost Hinds to the fifth ball of the day when he was

bowled by Henderson for 33 and Greg Smith followed four overs

later for 18, lbw to Nadeem Malik.

Left-arm spinner Henderson then took the wicket of Jon Clare,

lbw for one, to make the score 153-7 in the 62nd over.

Dan Birch came in at number nine despite still feeling the

effects of his stomach upset and added 16 as he and Pipe put on

25 in 23 overs before being caught behind off Tom Smith to the

fourth delivery with the second new ball just before lunch.

Pipe was caught at short leg for 20 and Derbyshire were all out

for 200 when Wagg was bowled by Tom Smith.
