Cricket fans fork out to get behind Derbyshire
CRICKET fans have shown they are ready to get behind Derbyshire for their new challenge in Division One of the County Championship.
With more than two months to go until the start of the campaign, the county club have already taken more money through memberships than all last season.
Promotion in 2012 and the offer of discounted rates through their Early Bird scheme, which ended on January 31, have combined to push the club beyond the figure just short of £126,000 they took last year after VAT.
Of the 975 adult memberships Derbyshire have sold so far, 199 were not members in either 2011 or 2012. The ambassador initiative, which offered members £50 cash back if they introduced a new member, accounted for 51 of those.

In addition, 374 junior members have registered and, with life members and honorary life members, that takes the total membership to 1,481 so far, as opposed to fewer than 1,200 last year.
Chairman Chris Grant is delighted by the response and said: "I think our Early Bird pricing might have pulled forward a few purchases and we have still got a lot of hard work to do but this is very encouraging."
