Derbyshire pub crowned for serving up one of the best roasts in the country
A PUB in Holbrook serves up one the five best roast dinners in Britain.
The Spotted Cow in Town Street, which is headed by Fiona Gilchrist, beat more than one hundred others to make British Roast Dinner Week's list of the top five roasts, chosen by Unilever Food Solutions.
To create her roasts, Fiona uses produce from her local greengrocer and butcher to produce the best quality fresh vegetables and meat.
Fiona serves up to 200 traditional dinners each Sunday. She said her varied plates, with four different vegetables, two different types of potato and giant Yorkshire puddings would sometimes be too much for the average stove at home.

Sarah Branagan, who helps run the award scheme, said: "For a restaurant to serve one of the top five roast dinners in the country is a fantastic achievement."

“I have no faith in this 'competition' When we went last month it was shocking. I wouldn't have fed it to the cat. Shocking, they've done some good PR here but seriously, avoid the place.”

“We ate there once; never again. Not worthy or an award for food or hospitality.”

“That image of the pub doesn't look appealing to even attract me there.
The building needs renovating, as it certainly looks depressing and dull.”

“The last time I went out for Sunday lunch was to Mr Grundys, My friend had the beef and I had lamb. I couldn't eat all my lunch, the lamb was a shank not slices, the plate was huge and very full of vegetables and potatoes. What I did manage to eat was very nice and can recommend the place.”

“I went there about 6 months ago and was decidedly underwhelmed with my roast. It looked nice but was fairly tasteless. Certainly not top 5.”
