The revamp is being jointly funded by the licensees and the pub’s owner, Burton-based pub company Punch Taverns.

It will be given a new decor and the kitchen will be moved upstairs to make room for more diners.

The pub will also be opening its own pie shop, selling pies baked on-site.

Mr Merrick said: “The plans look fantastic. We look forward to seeing the end result.”
