David James the chief executive of Visit Peak District and Derbyshire – the area’s official tourist board said: “When it comes to the quality and variety of its food and drink venues, the Peak District and Derbyshire is hard to beat.

“We can offer everything from premium fish and chips at a traditional takeaway to top quality fine dining at a Michelin starred restaurant – plus a host of mouthwatering options to please your palate and pocket in between.”

The varied and innovative eating options on Derbyshire’s menu make the most of the bountiful supply of great produce on its doorstep and mirror the county’s own diverse landscape.

David said: ““You can whet your appetite on views good enough to eat, then tuck into a flavour-packed feast at one of a host of cosy country pubs, chic city bars, traditional tea rooms and first-class restaurants.”

So whether you are after a fine shoulder of organic lamb or a famous Bakewell tart, you are certain to find something to tickle your taste-buds at one of the county’s many outstanding eateries.

1. Fischer’s Baslow Hall, Calver Road, Baslow, DE45 1RR, 01246 583 259.

Opening hours: Lunch 12-1.30pm and dinner daily from 7pm daily.

Style: Modern British

Prices: Two course lunch £28.50, three course dinner £72

Try: Cannon of new season Derbyshire lamb braised shoulder, sweet bread, herb crust, goats cheese gratin dauphinoise.

Derbyshire’s only Michelin starred restaurant, Fischer’s at Baslow Hall has blazed a culinary trail in the county over the last few years.

Renowned for its imaginative reinventions of classic dishes using local produce, the restaurant has won numerous awards and plaudits.

As well as making use of the best suppliers in the county and further afield,

Fischer’s also grows many of its own vegetables, fruit and herbs to ensure that diners sample some of the freshest ingredients available.

Set in a comfortable yet elegant dining room at the picturesque stately home of Baslow Hall, this remains the definitive must-visit restaurant for foodies in Derbyshire.

2. Anoki, First Floor, 129 London Road, Derby, DE1 2QN, 01332 292888.

Opening hours: 5.30pm to 11pm Monday to Saturday.

Style: Indian

Prices: Mains from £16.

Try: Goan sea bass curry.

Twice named in The Times’ top 10 Indian restaurants in the UK, Anoki combines the glamour and glitz of Bollywood with some of the very best food around.

From rose petals and candles on the stairs to Bollywood films projected on the walls the restaurant –which also has premises in Burton and Nottingham- is almost worth a visit for the atmosphere alone.

But Anoki certainly cannot be accused of style over substance. With a wide range of authentic dishes and friendly service it has firmly established itself as the number one Indian restaurant in this part of the world.

3. The Devonshire Arms, Beeley, Matlock, DE4 2NR, 01629 733259.

Style: British

Prices: Mains from £9.95.

Try: Pan-fried local estate wood pigeon heritage potato puree, garden vegetables, truffle sauce.

Winner of numerous accolades including Gastro Pub of the year at the Derbyshire Food and Drink Awards this charming inn on the Chatsworth Estate perfectly blends traditional values with a contemporary feel.

With two different dining areas and a menu boasting everything from bangers and mash to a la carte cuisine the Devonshire Arms offers something for everyone.

So whether you are after fine dining in the chic brasserie or great pub grub in the cosy inn area you won’t be disappointed.

4. Woodlands Tea Rooms, Woodseats Lane, Charlesworth, Glossop, SK13 5DP, 01457 866568.

Opening hours: Thursday to Sunday from 12noon until 5pm

Style: Traditional British

Prices: Sandwiches from £5.50, mains from £6.75.

Try: Fresh poached salmon platter served with prawns, seasonal fresh fruit, salad, Marie Rose sauce, crusty bread and Woodlands French dressing or Woodlands’ famous afternoon tea.

Officially the best tea-room in Derbyshire after scooping the award at the 2010 Derbyshire Food and Drink Awards, Woodlands does the simple things incredibly well.

Wonderful home-cooked, locally sourced food and great views over Coombes Rocks are only beaten by the friendly service led by ex-airline cabin crew member Judy Mairs and her husband Brian.

5. Le Mistral, Bridge Street, Bakewell, DE45 1DS, 01629 810077

Opening hours: From 11am daily.

Style: French

Prices: Light bites and lunches from £4, dinner from £9.60 for a main course.

Try: Boeuf Bourgignon, Le Mistral’s signature dish.

Whether you are after a pastry and a pot of tea or fine-dining flavours from across the Channel, Le Mistral brings touch of French flair to the Derbyshire dining scene.

Freshly prepared seasonal dishes, a choice of great wines and a whole host of great special offers have made this a firm favourite with diners across the ever-growing Le Mistral empire which includes establishments in Wirksworth, Nottingham and Sherwood.

Particularly popular are the restaurants range of themed dining events from steak nights to vegetarian menus and wine tastings. Le Mistral has been named ‘Best International Restaurant’ at the Derbyshire Food and Drink Awards two years in succession.

6. Ebi Sushi, Abbey St, Derby, DE22 3SB ,01332 265 656.

Prices: Starters from around £4, individual dishes up to £11.90.

Style: Japanese

Try: Ebi's deluxe nigiri sushi set consisting of chu-toro (medium fatty tuna), maguro, mackerel, salmon, ikura (salmon roe), scallop, ebi (of course), hamachi (yellow tail) and tuna maki.

Originally opened to provide homesick Japanese workers at the nearby Burnaston Toyota plant with a taste from home, Ebi Sushi is now so popular among the diners of Derby that booking ahead is essential.

Despite being almost as far from the sea as it is possible to be in the UK this place has gone from being a hidden gem to one of the crown jewels of Derby’s eating out scene.

Authentic and unassuming, eating at Ebi Sushi will feel like being transported 6000 miles away to the backstreets of Kyoto.

Unlikely location it may be but this is one of the best sushi restaurants anywhere the UK.

7. The Royal Oak, Hurdlow, Nr Buxton,SK17 9QJ, 01298 83288.

Opening Hours: 12-9pm daily.

Style: Traditional British

Prices: Sandwiches from £5.75, main meals from £8.50

Try: The self-awarded ‘world's best” Royal Oak ploughman’s.

If you like your grub hearty and homemade your pubs cosy and your ales cask-conditioned then you won’t need to look any further than The Royal Oak.

Situated in the southern Peak District this pub is a popular haven for weary walkers, families and foodies alike.

Derbyshire’s Traditional Pub of the Year in 2010, the Oak offers a wide range of classic pub dishes from homemade pies to fish and chips, all at highly affordable prices.

8. The Peacock at Rowsley, Bakewell Road, Rowsley, Matlock, DE4 2EB, 01629 733 518.

Opening hours: Monday to Saturday 8am-10pm and Sunday 10am-4pm.

Style: Modern British

Prices: Lunch: sandwiches from £6.95, mains from £14.50. Dinner from £27.

Try: Venison loin, butternut squash and sage risotto, parsley root, Cropwell Bishop beignets, Bessen Genever sauce.

One of only three UK hotels to be awarded 3 AA rosettes when it received the recognition in 2009, The Peacock is undoubtedly one of the most exciting restaurants in the county.

With passion and imagination running through every dish the restaurant’s elegant reinvention of classic British flavours has seen it win a host of awards including being named Derbyshire’s ‘Restaurant of the Year’ in 2010.

Set in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales the Peacock also boasts luxury rooms and a seven mile stretch of the Rivers Wye and Derwent for fly fishermen to come and try their hand at catching the unique strain of brown trout that reside there.

Try: Derbyshire Ham, gruyere and real ale chutney pannini.

The county’s reigning ‘cafe of the year’ PeliDeli offers fresh homemade sandwiches, pannini and salads using the fines local produce around.

Whether it’s fresh baked bread or an array of mouth-watering meats and cheeses, owners Mike and Jess Blair have sourced the very best ingredients from a virtual who’s who of top suppliers.

The PeliDeli is perhaps best known for its coffee which has seen them ranked in the top 10 of the UK’s baristas.

10. Stones Restaurant, 1C Dale Rd ,Matlock, DE4 3LT, 01629 56061.

Opening hours: 6-9pm Tuesday to Saturday. Sunday 12-2pm.

Style: Modern British

Prices: Mains from £16.50

Try the: 24hr-cooked honey glazed pork belly with creamed savoy cabbage, sweet potato terrine and mustard cream.

With its warm, intimate dining room and beautiful riverside terrace Stones offers a stylish and relaxed dining experience. The menu offers a contemporary twist on traditional British favourites while the exquisite tasting menu and tapas nights have proved popular. With its great location, inventive food and excellent service it is easy to see why Stones has become one of the premier dining destinations on the edge of the Peak District.
