“Definitely a quiet country pub, in the Peak District, with rooms. The Devonshire Arms in Peak Forest has all these requirements and is over 1000 ft up in the Peak District.”

“Romantic? Derbyshire? Ooooh that's tricky! I don't know anywhere in Derby - maybe The Dolphin upstairs - although I suppose a secluded pub meal at the Dog & Duck in Shardlow might do too.

My choices would certainly be north of Ashbourne - the Peacock at Rowsley and others in them there hills - or in local Staffordshire, like the Brook House at Rolleston.

Romantic? That's the problem with gastropubs - no soul.

It probably doesn't matter if you're in love; Pizza Hut, Nando's, whatever...it's your partner, not the restaurant that's romantic. Most importantly - NO KIDS! KIDS ARE NOT ROMANTIC DURING A CANDLE LIT DINNER!”

“ps Mansion is on Midland Rd - wouldn't want people who book there to be in a less than romantic row if they can't find it!”

    “Don't fancy the thermals!
I am happy to have a special meal cooked at home on Valentines - no need to worry about not drinking and driving or shivering in a taxi queue.
And then go out for a meal together when the restaurants aren't so busy. Somewhere where you can't hear every word the next table says to each other is good - and where you don't feel hurried along so they can slot the next people onto your table.”
