“Derbyshire is beautiful but the city lets it down. The town centre has been badly let down by a council who are determined to take down any of our nice old buildings (new council house does look nice though), as others have said many of our suburbs are not exactly desirable, Normanton is a land of it's own ... but twenty minutes drive and you can be in some of this country's most finest scenery. IMO, it's easy to moan about this country when you are in a semi-grotty provincial city-town, but England really is blessed with green and pleasant land which I think is as stunning as any grand canyon or pyramid in it's own way.”

“Scenic countryside near Etwall - haha, haha haha.... a field of foul, non-native, rape. Vile shade of yellow, smells like cat p**s, unhelpful to pollinators and grown by lazy farmers for fast cash EU subsidies.

Derby city is mostly a 'no live there if you don't have to' place. Allenton, Alvaston, Chaddesden, Mackwoth, Normanton, Sinfin, (for example) - great people but would you choose to live there? Chances are , newcomers would prefer Allestree, Heatherton, Littleover, Mickleover, Oakwood or somewhere outside the city boundary if they can afford it.

Best place to set up home is where you can afford; the rest is aspiration...

I'm Derby born and bred, and I wouldn't change counties willingly, it's a fantastic place to live.”

“Derby City is mostly a 'no live there if don't have to' place. Alvaston, Allenton, Chaddesden, Sinfin, Normanton, Mackworth - great people but hardly des-res. Spondon, Mickleover, Allestree, Oakwood - not so bad but too many new builds on what used to be garden/open space.

Outskirts aren't bad but the real gems are in the County, not the City. I'm glad we're not top of the pile, none of us would be able to afford to live here we were Windsor, Wilmslow, Henley-on-Thames or 'Chelsea'.

    Penthouse in Duckworth Square anyone?”

“Derby is not that bad at all. Yes there are problems, yes I'd say it has gone downhill somewhat - especially the city centre. Overall though as cities go it is a good size, not too big, has great parks, reasonable shops and is relatively safe. If you compare it to a Peak District town yes of course you'll be able to find many faults with Derby - but compare it to many other industrial cities and I think Derby comes out pretty well.

As far as multi culturalism goes - again that is any large urban area these days - for good or bad you can't really say Derby stands out in the regard.”

“Derby isn't a bad place to live - there are far worse cities. Yes I agree the city centre itself has gone downhill but Derby is still a nice size, good parks, enough shops, relatively safe. You can't really compare an industrial city to a small town in the Peak District.”

“I have lived in Derby all of my 60 odd years being born down the old west end where everyone looked after each other times were happy at least if not well off. Derbyshire itself is splendid in many places hills, green fields, rivers etc etc, but if Derby City is included in the vote then Im not surprised. What annoys me is government and the like make out our multi cultural society is a great asset, what they don't say is most immigrants of different creeds or similar hate each other with a vengeance. Not mentioning nationalities, but its true, and theyre all mixed up together in our suburbs not a good way of life for most.”
