Derbyshire held a lead of 159 at the end of the second day of their LV County Championship match against Gloucestershire.

They reached 193-4 at the close, with Greg Smith and Tom New both 28 not out, after Chris Rogers had set Derbyshire on their way with an innings of 74.

The loss of Dan Birch in the final over before tea, lbw to Richard Dawson for 47, was an unwelcome blow for Derbyshire but Rogers' loss was even tougher as he was also given lbw to Jon Lewis at 153-4.

The home side saw their hopes of a first innings lead wiped out as Gloucestershire were finally bowled out for 222, ahead by 34.

Charl Langeveldt celebrated being named the supporters club player of the year with the first wicket of the day when he had Dawson caught at gully by Paul Borrington for eight in the seventh over at 121-7.

But Steve Snell and Lewis put on 69 in 22 overs before Ian Hunter had Lewis caught behind by New for 28.

It was left to Graham Wagg to mop up the last two Gloucestershire wickets to finish with figures of 6-56. Snell was last out for a fine 72.

Borrington fared little better than in the first innings as he was caught at first slip for one at 6-1 but Rogers and Birch steadied their side with a stand of 71.
