Richard Wildgoose broke the deadlock as Derwent headed for victory.
They followed a 0-0 draw at nearest rivals Leicester with a 3-0 home win over Nuneaton to leave coach Heath Roberts saying: "I can finally see the finish line in sight.
"I would love to seal promotion in February.
"To have kept two more clean sheets is brilliant. That makes 10 out of 14 and gives us the best defensive figures in the entire league."
Derwent made the trip to Leicester on Saturday aware that merely avoiding defeat would take them a huge step closer to the title..
They began the game strongest, forcing Leicester to attack on the counter.
Ash Vaughan, Richard Wildgoose and Steve Langrick all went close without being able to break the deadlock.
Leicester were stronger in the second half but the draw looked inevitable as the game wore on – and suited the Wirksworth side.
They went into their second game of the weekend without top scorer Ben Everett-Li but went ahead after a succession of short corners.
From the last of them, Wildgoose deflected in Tom Williams' shot after 25 minutes.
Derwent continued to control the game in the second half, Dean Stevens adding a second with a near-post shot.
The win was sealed soon after, with Stevens finishing a flowing team move.
Roberts' men can seal promotion on Saturday when they are at home to Coalville (1pm).
