LIAM Dickinson is to stay on loan at Huddersfield Town for a further month but Derby County are keeping a close eye on the striker's progress.

The 22-year-old has yet to feature in Derby's first team following his £750,000 summer move from Stockport County but has impressed with two goals in five appearances for Huddersfield.

Rams manager Paul Jewell, whose team is short of goals having scored five in seven Championship matches, insists Dickinson is still part of his plans.

"Liam's loan spell is going well, so it makes perfect sense for him to stay at Huddersfield for the time being and continue to get that match sharpness," added Jewell.

"We've had him watched in every game he has played there and Stan (Ternent) and I speak regularly. Liam's scored a few goals as well, which has been good for his confidence.

"He is still very much in our plans but I have a lot of options up front at the moment, so I think it serves everyone's best interests for him to be playing regularly on loan."

Rob Hulse, Emanuel Villa and Nathan Ellington are ahead of Dickinson in the pecking order at Derby, although only Hulse has scored in the League this season.

Huddersfield boss Ternent, the former Rams assistant manager, is pleased to have Dickinson on board.

"Liam has been a real asset to us during his time here and I'm delighted to have him for another month, although Derby have a 24-hour recall clause now," said Ternent.

"He was short of games when he first came here and there's still more to come from him, there's no question about that.

"Paul (Jewell) knows that I'll look after Liam and we're helped by the fact that Derby will have an instant recall, so if they have any injuries or suspensions, they can get him back straight away."

Dickinson's initial month loan ended after Huddersfield's victory over Northampton Town on Saturday.

He will now stay with the Terriers until October 21.

“Glad to see some good sensible debate without to much of the usual drivel. Surprisingly enough I am not a big fan of Hulse, I think he gets dragged to wide and then isn¿t there when the cross comes over. However to be fair to him on Saturday pumping the ball high in to the air when the have a big back four wasn¿t the answer and no wonder we do not see an effective forward line. We have showed how good we are when we keep the ball on the floor and attack via the wings. Regarding Dickinson either he has got it or not, the only thing that can be said is he is a proven goal scorer at all levels he has played at so it would be obvious to let him have a go with time to settle in. I think the comment was made he has gone on loan to give him confidence and regular football? All I can say is he has not got confidence with his record he never will. For the manager debate I think we may be in a better position to comment after the Birmingham match as either we will have turned the corner truly or change may be imminent”

“also my peanut headed fiend, water cannot pass the lips during fasting, better make sure that when he is on the bench he dosent take a swallow, or that would really be taking the rise, claiming to fast so cant train or play for a month and still picking up his wages, have you a hypocrite in the team? better make sure he dosent pedal too far on that penny farthing you got in the dug out”

“john, fasting is when they dont eat during daylight hours or something like that, he would not have the fuel on board to play a full game, hence a cameo apperance, your right tho there wont be any concrete evidence that his cant play cos of fasting but dont you think it is suspicious that he all of a sudden hasnt played while its the slimfast plan”

“so then john, if hulse and tito are good in training and still get into the first team, what do you think the lemon is like in training if he isnt even being considered for the first team?.....would you like a clue to help your peanut come to that decision?”

“Chester - IF Ellington is picking up his wages while he is dieting then it is a farce BUT you have no concrete evidence that this is happening and lets have it right.. When he came on against Cardiff he certainly didnt seem like he had been starving himself!”

“So are you telling me that players like Hulse are up to scratch then Chester?? Far as im concerned, especially with strikers, I couldnt give two s*its what they do in training as long as they turn up on a Saturday and bang some goals in! Hulse cant do this and neither can Tito, now they may be good in training but in training is not where we win points!! My point is that even if these players are proving it in training but not out on the pitch then why should someone like Dickinson not be given his chance out on the pitch? Lets remember that PJ will have only seen Dickinson in pre-season training, hardly seems like a fair judgement to me. Especially considering Rob Hulse previous to coming to Derby had broken his leg and not scored in 27 matches!!”

“Professional football managers do know more than fans in the broad sweep but we should not get carried away with the mystique! Part of being a fan is having a view and enjoying the ability to express it. Football is complicated but I will not accept that it is beyond the understanding of some fans to hold a balanced view and then be able to defend their assessment with some credibility.

Some football managers in the top two leagues are far too well paid considering that much of what was associated with being a manager in the past is now delegated to [or taken over by] others. These days players are sometimes signed without being seen by the manager and furthermore there is sometimes more tolerance of a poor ratio of good signings to bad.

Have you noticed how bad L1 and L2 seem to be these days - especially the defending?

I seem to be very grumpy today. Sorry about that.”
