Dickov may be handed longer Rams loan
NIGEL Clough says striker Paul Dickov is playing his way to a possible extended stay at Derby County.
Dickov once again received a standing ovation when he was substituted 13 minutes from the end of Saturday's 2-1 victory over Reading at Pride Park Stadium.

Paul Dickov
The 37-year-old Scot, who is on loan from Leicester City, has helped the Rams to three of their six wins this season.
His loan is up in January but Clough said Dickov had given him food for thought.
"He certainly has," said Clough. "You don't let players like Paul go easily.
"Around the place he is good, whether he is starting matches or on the bench.
"He is a good trainer and his contribution on the pitch has been very good.
"It might just depend on who is here and who is not here in January when it comes to strikers."
Dickov's impressive performances have surprised most of the supporters and they have been quick to applaud his contribution.
He set up both goals for Rob Hulse in the home victory over Coventry earlier this month and had a big hand in Paul Green's equaliser against Reading.
Dickov told the Derby Telegraph recently that he would jump at the chance to stay longer.
He was left out of the defeat at Swansea but earned a recall for the Reading game despite Derby bringing in pacy front man DJ Campbell, also on loan from Leicester.
"Paul deserved to start and he was very good indeed," said Clough.
"He gave a very mature performance, made the first goal for us and was the reason why DJ did not get on.
"But it was nice just to have another striker on the bench in case.
"Having a strong bench was as important as anything.
"Being able to bring Miles Addison on, Dean Moxey on, and Jake Livermore as a makeshift right-back makes a huge difference."
Clough said he had words with Dickov and Hulse at half-time about holding the ball up better.
"We were having a go at them a little bit because we didn't think they held the ball up for us in the first half," added Clough.
"Every time they did, we created a chance or looked as though we would create one.
"They did it better in the second half. Both goals came from doing that. We look a different team once we get hold of the ball up front."

“I believe Nigel and the club are moving in the right direction, small steps at a time. The Directors of the club have the finances under control, for the first time in many years. It has proved in the past that changing managers once a month and throwing money at expensive transfers just does not work. There are supporters who suggest that more investment is required, thats ok until you ask these supporters who we should buy, then there is a silence. His Father took small steps at a time with many of his first singings unknowns, but he got there. Nigel will.”

“Derby need more investment
otherwise we are going to get overexcited about over the top players. We beat a poor side on sat. Some guys played well and the manager was positive playing two strikers and sending both centre halves up
for every dead ball situation.
But there were still big holes in tbe performance not least the passing and ball retention by the centre mids and the strikers
(first half). Biggest question mark for me is Rob Savage,
his best is ave - also pearson needs to move and demand the ball more.”

“After the game sat i was happy with the result but left the ground fuming about the tactics.
After going 2-1 up we should have continued to push forward and kill off the game not go 4-5-1 defensive and give them a chance with 10 men to get back in the game.
30,000 poeple payed to be entertained and i am sorry but with those sort of tactics it was not entertaining after the change at 2-1.
Roll on sat and i hope for the same effort as the players did give us something to be proud of as they gave 100%.
Big shout out for Gary Teale Top man Sat !!!”

“Yes Im a tricky allright!
The brand of football has changed at burton - and had to because the lower down you are, the more direct the football has to be to take into account ability.
many Burton fans forget when Nigel took over, they were a part time, semi professional side playing against Alfreton and Ilkeston.
THey are now professional, with a super stadioum.
2 league titles, some seperate silverware and increased performance each and every season.
For burton fans to complain - they must be mad!!!
Derbys future success (and I hope you do get in the prem, it would be great to play you - just after we beat Liverpool lol) will be based on patience and longevity.
Forgetting the one season you got promoted - derby have been very much like Forest for a long time. No progress on or off the pitch and selling your best players.
It takes time to develop a culture, not just a playing culture but a team ethos and Nigel has the right building blocks.
You signings have been questionable - but if you dont have the resources (financial or player commitment) you go out and buy the best that is available to you.
If Moxey and Deeney are the best available - then you should question the board.
Billy Davies is buying Championship and Premiership players because he can - Im sure Nigel would do the same, if he was allowed.”

“David.. are you sure you are a Forest fan? You seem quite intelligent and can put across a reasonable arguement without calling us Direby or calling our ground Prideless Park or resulting to the ridiculous "loving it" comments! Fair play to you but it is easy looking from the outside in. What are you basing your opinion that Nigel Clough is a good manager on though? 10 years in non league or under 1 season at championship level becuase I am judging him on the later. Id say we are more likely to be playing football in the lower tiers than the Premiership under his tenure. We are playing sloppy football and he makes bizarre tactical decisions that cost us games. Given the it took him 10 years to get Burton to where they are today is he really capable of doing the same at Derby? Besides, ask any Burton fan and they will tell you the football they are playing under Peshcisolido is far better than any played during the Clough era.”

“Hi Forest fan in Derby.
I'm oing to try and comment without bias...difficult I know.
I think you should just be contempt with 2 or 3 season of mid table expectations...
1) it appears you dont really have any money - there is some out there, hence you signing Barker for a million.
2) Nigel build his side slowly at Burton, its his style and it will work.
Personally I think he could have got Burton into the chmapionship - given the time.
3) you'll do well to have some pateince with Nigel. he is a good manager and you have an excellent prospect of premiership - just not yet”

“Not to gloat on my comments last week but Dickov is a very very good player. Make no mistake as an ex-player I would never want to mark he is pain in the bum to any defender and good luck to him. Hopw he stays and what a great deserved applaud he got on Saturday! Up ther Rams!”
