ONE Direction star and Rams supporter Niall Horan has labelled the owners of Derby County as "embarrassing".

The 19-year-old spoke out after issuing an ultimatum to Rams chairman Andrew Appleby, saying: “Until you buy a few players you’re not getting a ticket to our show!”

Although Niall’s hometown is in Ireland, he follows Derby County after his dad Bobby took him to watch the team when he was a child.

On Tuesday, The Sun revealed that Niall is so passionate about the team, he’s even resorted to blackmail to ensure that the club does better in the league.

The paper reported: “One Direction and Rams supporter Niall Horan has issued an ultimatum to chairman Andrew Appleby.…

“He will only grant the US businessman’s plea for 1D tickets if he promises to bankroll the East Midlands club into the Premier League.”

Niall said: “Every time I go to a game he’s always like, ‘Yap, yap, yap’.

“He said his daughter is a fan and asked me if they could go to our show in Detroit.

“I said, ‘Yeah, that’s not a problem’ but I told him he couldn’t go himself.

“I said, ‘Until you buy a few players you’re not getting a ticket to our show’.”

Niall took to Twitter at lunchtime on Tuesday to give further comment on the recent lack of signings at Derby County.

He tweeted: "Just thinkin about my beloved derby county! Fans don't deserve this anymore!

"C'mon owner finger out! You're embarassing yourself"

“Great opportunity for the Rams to rid themselves of GSE and have optimism for next season.
I would not offer Mr Appleby a free ticket to a local game let alone a concert in America after the season ticket debacle. Norwich are a prime example of having an individual owner as are Newcastle and Everton and their fans are not begging for investment nor complaining about their Premiership membership. I play in the same vets side as a Forest fan and he has bought season tickets for he and his son for next season what optimism but what excitement!
This lad has voiced the opinions of most Derby supporters and well done to him.”

“mrjono, a good post and a valid opinion. But how many more seasons should the fans wait? And how many more seasons before there are hardly any fans left to care?

As for the financial situation, it was recently stated that the club owes in the region of £40m - about the same as when the Three Amigos were ousted. We're losing something like £7m a year and there's nothing more to cut. Good businessmen, faced with this predicament, either get out or put in and invest heavily.

One point I do agree with you on is that you'd struggle to find someone to do a better job than Clough with the resources to hand. Although Clough himself could do a much better job than Clough is doing if he'd manage players instead of falling out with them. A change of manager of the order that I imagine this board would make - swapping Clough for a manager even less proven on even less cash - might see us drop like a stone.”

“GSE are clueless, maybe they need reminding that the own DCFC - their silence during these dreadful times is deafening. Four years of failure.

“I get so tired of reading the comments on the Rams this (and every) season. No one is denying GSE are an investment business within the Sports arena, a profitable business with investors to consider BUT DCFC appear to be . . . and before you all start to berate me this is just MY opinion, in a far better financial situation than we have been for years. The way the whole 'business' at Pride Park is run is far more professional than it ever has been.

As for the team; Although as a passionate supporter I have questioned certain decisions that Nigel has made on the pitch as every fan will do at some point, I can honestly say that the basis of the team we have got has more promise and potential than we have seen in a while. I'm happier with the young and hungry talent we are seeing now than overpaying some failed premiership crocs who are only interested in how much cash we will have payed them at the end of the season. . . and about 50% of you are going to really start on me now . . . I think Nigel is doing an incredible job with the resources he has available. Kudos also to Darren Wassall as we look at the production of young talent we are helping to create which are now breaking into the first team. Investment in players doesn't guarantee anything, anyone who watched Everton (super Leon!) v Man city at the weekend can vouch for that.

All in all, WE ARE DERBY and it strikes me sometimes that the fans had more camaraderie when we were being hammered every week in the premiership than being able to get behind the team now, which is sad. Yes I'd like to see us back in the premiership but with a team that has a solid basis of young professionals that can step up to the challenge without us having to scrap around in summer buying the aforementioned 'has beens' and if that means another season or two in the Championship then so be it.

. . . and just to answers the cynics before they start; I'm not American, associated in any way with GSE or Derby County (other than a fan) and am not related to anyone who works there either so don't waste your time banging on that old drum.”

“Right on Niall!!!!! Well done kiddo!!! I'm with you all the way babe!!! Too many Victor Meldrews on this site. Too many dinosaurs. Too many mediocre guys with no ambition.

What a breath of fresh air - Niall you made my day and I join you with a big fingers up to GSE!!!”
