Dog dies after fall through frozen lake

A DOG died after falling through ice on a frozen lake last night.

Firefighters from Ilkeston, the water rescue teams from Kingsway and Highfields fire stations attended the lake, close to Kirk Hallam Community School at 6.40pm.

They initially attempted to break the ice to form a path back to the bank for the animal but were unsuccessful.

A firefighter in a dry suit then entered the water to try to draw the animal closer to the shore.

Once the dog was recovered, it was given CPR and oxygen by firefighters but died.
