Dog dies after falling through ice at Kirk Hallam lake
A DOG has died after falling through ice on the Kirk Hallam lake close to the school.
Crews from Ilkeston, the water rescue team from Kingsway and Highfields attended the lake close to the school at 18.43.
They initially attempted to break the ice to form a path back to the bank for the animal but were unsuccessful.
A firefighter in a dry suit then entered the water to try and draw it closer to the shore.

“Hope lessons are learned about keeping dogs on leads near rivers/lakes that are frozen, how very sad a pet has lost it's life which could hac=ve been avoided with a little common sense, this could also have resulted in another loss of life of the water rescue team”

“I'm sure the owner is very upset indeed - but I am glad this article was not about a person dying after going out on ice after the dog.
Hope the owner remembers the good times shared with his/ her pet and that brings comfort”
