ONLY one day after it was announced that Rikki Clarke had left Derbyshire, another of John Morris' winter signings has been released from his contract.

Left-arm spinner Nayan Doshi has left the club with immediate effect, having also failed to last a full first year of a two-year contract.

Unlike Clarke, the 29-year-old does not have another county to go to yet but he has asked to be allowed to leave because he feels his first-team opportunities are going to be limited.

Doshi, who negotiated his release from Surrey last year for similar reasons, has proved to be a useful containing bowler in limited-overs cricket for Derbyshire this season but has not backed that up with wickets in the Championship – taking only eight wickets in eight matches at an average of 80.75.

But the player says he believes his performances have been better than the figures suggest.

"At the start of the season, I know I didn't bowl well but after Northampton, I think I have bowled very well without having any luck," he said.

"That happens with spinners sometimes but I haven't been giving runs away and I have been able to tie up an end for the seamers, like I did at Edgbaston last week.

"It did upset me to be left out against Glamorgan and I'm just not happy with the way things are going, so it is best to part ways.

"I have the utmost respect for John (Morris) because he has the responsibility to make his decisions and I leave on decent terms – shake hands and say goodbye – but I realised I wasn't going to get much of an opportunity and I had to make the decision that was right for me."

Doshi also denied that the departure of his good friend Clarke was a factor.

"It had nothing to do with it. I won't be going to Warwickshire," he added.

Head of cricket Morris said the parting of ways with Doshi had not been at his behest.

"I would have liked him to stay because he has been bowling well in the one-dayers but he has not taken the weight of wickets we hoped for in the Championship," he said.
