Double blow rocks Derbyshire
A late double blow left Derbyshire reeling at the end of the
third day in their LV County Championship match at
Chelmsford.
They closed on 188-5, still needing 184 to beat Essex, but
their prospects took a jolt when Dominic Telo and Rikki Clarke,
who had put on 87 for the fourth wicket, both lost their
wickets in the space of four balls inside the final few minutes
of the day.
Essex were bowled out for 238 in their second innings, starting
when Charl Langeveldt struck with the sixth ball of the day
when he bowled Mark Pettini, who had not added to his overnight
score of six.
Ravi Bopara passed 50 for the seventh time in 11 Championship
innings but was caught behind off Graham Wagg for 71 at
135-5.
James Foster was sixth out to the second ball after lunch for
37 and though Ryan ten Doeschate scored confidently on his way
to 55 not out, the rest gave in meekly.
There were four wickets each for Langeveldt and Wagg in the
Derbyshire attack.
Their opening batsmen put on 57 before Dan Birch was caught
behind cutting at off-spinner James Middlebrook for 31.
Steve Stubbings (30) and Wavell Hinds (2) followed shortly
after tea but Telo and Clarke were scoring smoothly to take the
score on to 184-3 with only three overs to go.
Then Telo was caught at silly point for 69 off Danish Kaneria
and Clarke followed to a terrific catch from wicketkeeper James
Foster, standing up to Ryan ten Doeschate, for 44.
