DERBY County manager Nigel Clough felt that Saturday's 1-1 draw with rivals Nottingham Forest was the right outcome, based on the balance of play.

The Rams trailed to a Chris Cohen strike at half-time but Jamie Ward, making his first start since the end of September, equalised in the 52nd minute to earn the home side a share of the spoils in front of a packed Pride Park crowd.

“It was probably about the right result, although we did press on in the second half after we equalised – so a point is about fair, I think," said Clough.

“Despite going a goal down, the players kept doing the right things and our performance overall was pretty good, so we’re happy as they gave us everything once again.

“Local derbies can sometimes fail to live up to the hype but this was a really good football match between two good sides – and it was more free-flowing than the last few meetings.

“With a young and inexperienced side, we were 1-0 down at home in a local derby but the players showed plenty of character to get back level."

“Possibly true, but the playoffs are clearly a bridge too far this season. 7 points away from 6th. And they have a game in hand. We have reliably flitted between 9th and 13th this season. Win a couple, drop a couple of games, with the odd draw mixed in. Still lacking a ball winning midfielder and a reliable striker.. And a real leader on the pitch. Only way we're frying them is if/when Hughes its sold.”
