Drugs gang boss fails in jail plea
THE boss of a gang jailed for nine years for his part in a city drugs syndicate has failed to win a cut in his jail term.
Paldip Mahngar was one of four men who used three Derby safe houses as distribution centres for 800kg of cannabis, thought to be worth £2m.
Mahngar, 33, of Baker Street, Alvaston, was said to be the "head and controlling mind" of the gang, which it imported drugs from Holland.
Police tracked the collection and delivery of cannabis, ecstasy and amphetamines to various locations in Britain, including Derbyshire, between October 2006 and July 2007.
Mahngar was jailed at Leicester Crown Court last April 27, after admitting conspiracy to supply cannabis, ecstasy and amphetamine.
His lawyers yesterday appealed at London's Criminal Appeal Court, argued Mahngar had been "left with a sense of injustice" as the biggest sentence imposed on his co-accused had been six years.
But Mr Justice Hickinbottom said: "This was well-organised, wholesale drug dealing. He was the controlling mind and organiser of the enterprise and took the lion's share of the considerable profits."
