DYKEENIES The Rockhouse, Derby, Wednesday

SOME fool made a bet with The Dykeenies that they couldn't record and release an album, with singles included, under a band name including the word "Dyke". They proved them wrong and won that 26p.

The Dykeenies are three brothers and two friends from Cumbernauld. Formed in late 2005, the band sold out their first ever gig (at the ABC2 in Glasgow) and became the first band signed to the King Tuts Recordings label.

In 2006, they played the NME tour and got cracking on the debut album, Nothing Means Everything, which was produced by Dave Eringa and Dimitri Tikovoi and was released the following summer.

They've played venues as monstrous as Meadowbank Stadium and Edinburgh Castle, rocked the main stage at Rock Ness and packed the Pet Sounds tent at T in the Park.

Now they come to The Rockhouse, Babington Lane, Derby, on Wednesday, March 18. Tickets are £7. Call 01332 209236 or visit www.therockhouse derby.co.uk.
