EAST Midlands Airport has been shortlisted for an award aimed at celebrating the contribution of companies to their surrounding communities.

The airport, in Castle Donington, has been nominated in the Business Award category of the first annual Footprints Awards.

The awards, organised by North West Leicestershire District Council, highlight the work done by businesses and organisations to improve their environmental footprints.

Councillor Alison Smith, chairman of the council, said: "The awards will showcase the outstanding and inspirational work being undertaken to improve the environment across the region."

The ceremony will take place at the Hilton Hotel, in Castle Donington, next Friday.
