THE parent company of East Midlands Airport has completed a deal to buy Stansted Airport.

Manchester Airports Group (MAG), which owns Manchester, East Midlands and Bournemouth airports, has confirmed it has completed the deal to buy Stansted from BAA.

It was put on the market after a Competition Commission ruling forced BAA to sell Stansted, which handles 17.5 million passengers each year, because of a lack of competition between London airports.

Charlie Cornish, chief executive of MAG, said: “We’re delighted to have added Stansted to our strong portfolio of UK airports.”
