East Staffordshire Borough Council has carried out safety checks on taxis in the area.

The checks ensured the vehicles were in a roadworthy condition and that drivers complied with council and police legislation.

The scheme ensured that drivers had their personal badge, that the vehicles displayed council-issued license plates and door panels, and that they carried the right equipment such as first aid kits and fire extinguishers.

Out of the fourteen vehicles checked, ten of which were licensed by the borough council, there were no significant issues.
